WooCommerce abandoned cart recovery, measured in dollars
A WooCommerce store loses revenue in places the order list does not show: checkouts left at the payment step, subscription renewal orders that fail and stay unpaid, coupons that never expire and refunds nobody reviews as a pattern. RevenueLeak connects to your store with a read-only REST API key, shows each of those leaks in dollars per month, and sends cart follow-up and payment update emails only after you switch the rule on.
What we read from your WooCommerce store
You create the key yourself in WooCommerce, under Settings, Advanced, REST API, with the permission set to Read. Every read goes through the official WooCommerce REST API on your own domain.
| WooCommerce data | What the audit uses it for |
|---|---|
| Orders with status pending payment, failed and canceled | Order value, contact email, time of the last attempt, whether a follow-up went out |
| Completed and processing orders | Orders matched to earlier failed or pending ones, repeat order rhythm, totals after coupons |
| Subscriptions and renewal orders | Next payment date, recurring total, failed renewal attempts, status after a failure |
| Coupons | Discount size, usage count and whether a coupon has an expiry date |
| Refunds | Refund amounts, reasons, products and repeat refunders |
| Customers | Contact email and country for email timing |
- The first audit reads up to 24 months of history.
- Card numbers stay with your payment gateway and never reach us. Where the gateway stores the card expiry date on the subscription, we read the month and year only.
Abandoned checkouts and unpaid orders with no follow-up
WooCommerce creates an order the moment a shopper submits the checkout, so a payment that never completes leaves an order in pending payment or failed status. Where your store also records abandoned carts with a contact email, we read those too. The audit checks which of these orders and carts later turned into a paid order and which got no email of any kind. The ones with an email and no follow-up are the leak line. For example, if a store has 20,000 USD of unpaid checkout orders in a month and 8,000 USD of them received no email, the report shows 8,000 USD and applies your own recovery rate assumption to it, editable in the report. When you switch on the cart recovery rule, RevenueLeak sends the missing steps.
- A default three step sequence at 1 hour, 24 hours and 72 hours, every step editable.
- Each email links to the order payment page, so the shopper pays without rebuilding the cart.
- The sequence stops the moment the order is paid or the shopper unsubscribes.
- Coupons are off by default and can be added to the last step only.
The full sequence and its rules are on abandoned cart recovery.
Failed renewals on WooCommerce Subscriptions
WooCommerce Subscriptions creates a renewal order on each payment date and retries a failed one according to its own retry rules, if you have them on. We do not change those rules. RevenueLeak reads every failed renewal order, groups them by the failure reason your gateway returned, and shows how many subscriptions moved to on hold or canceled after a failed payment. When you switch on the payment update rule, the customer gets a plain email with a link to pay the renewal order or update the payment method in the My Account area, timed by the decline reason. An expired card is never worth another attempt, while insufficient funds often clears after payday. The mechanics by decline code are on failed payment recovery, and cards that expire before the next renewal are covered by the card updater.
Which leak categories apply to a WooCommerce store
Seven of the nine leak categories apply to a WooCommerce store. Prorated upgrades and comped seats are SaaS billing concepts and usually stay empty for a store.
- Failed renewal orders without a full retry and email sequence.
- Cards that expire in the next 30, 60 and 90 days, where the gateway stores the expiry date.
- Subscribers on recurring totals below your current product price.
- Coupons with no expiry date that keep reducing repeat orders.
- Refund patterns and repeat refunders.
- Subscriptions canceled or put on hold after a failed payment, which are save candidates.
- Unpaid checkout orders and abandoned carts with an email and no follow-up.
How each category is measured is on the billing leakage page.
What we read and what we never touch
The audit only reads. A key with Read permission cannot edit products, prices, stock, orders, coupons, subscriptions or settings, and RevenueLeak never installs anything on your server. Cart follow-up and payment update emails are sent from our side, from your verified sending domain, and only after you switch the rule on. You can exclude customers without marketing consent, staff emails and test orders. Revoking the key in WooCommerce ends the connection at once. The full permission model is on revenue assurance software.
Connect WooCommerce in four steps
- In WooCommerce, open Settings, then Advanced, then REST API, and add a key with the permission Read.
- Paste the consumer key and consumer secret into RevenueLeak with your store address.
- The first audit reads your orders, subscriptions, coupons and refunds and builds the report.
- Review the leak lines and switch on the recovery rules you want, one by one.
Your store needs HTTPS and the REST API enabled, which is the WooCommerce default.
Plans for WooCommerce stores
Each WooCommerce store counts as one connected billing account. Cart follow-up, payment update and card update emails share one monthly email limit.
| Plan | Revenue up to | Stores | Audit | Emails per month | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 10,000 USD | 1 | Monthly | 300 | 24 USD per month billed yearly, or 49 USD monthly |
| Growth | 100,000 USD | 2 | Weekly | 3,000 | 149 USD per month billed yearly, or 299 USD monthly |
| Scale | 1,000,000 USD | 5 | Daily | 20,000 | 399 USD per month billed yearly, or 799 USD monthly |
| Enterprise | above 1,000,000 USD | 20 | Daily | 100,000 | 999 USD per month billed yearly, or 1,999 USD monthly |
Stores on Shopify connect the same way, see abandoned cart recovery shopify. Every platform is listed on billing integrations, and full plan details are on revenue optimization software.
WooCommerce abandoned cart recovery questions

No. The key has Read permission only, so orders, subscriptions, coupons and products cannot be edited through it.
No. Your retry rules keep running. We read what they left unpaid and add emails only where they are missing.
Only unpaid checkout orders and recorded carts with a contact email and no follow-up. Anonymous carts cannot be reached, so they are not counted.
Yes. The estimate on the home page runs in your browser without an account. The full audit and the emails are part of the paid plans.
